Cat Named Fish

This painting could have easily been called Fish Named Cat for “Cat” is the fish’s name but it’s called Cat Named Fish to honor the lovely cats in my life, both past and present.

But it also about names. The power of a name and its value has long been immortalized in prose, poetry and religious ceremony. Many belief systems, from Native American to Harry Potter to The Vagina Monologues, feel that with naming comes power … the power to define, claim, own.

I’m hoping this painting will draw you in and start you thinking about what would it mean to a cat to be named Fish. Would it influence the personality of Fish?

What’s the importance of your own name? Has it influenced who you are? Do you think about the meaning and history of your given name? Why or not?

Dog Named Feed Me

So many of you asked for a companion to “Cat Named Fish”. There are many, many breeds of dogs, so I had to make this artwork a universal dog. Somewhat real but not really real! Here he/she is. Perpetually hungry and always wanting to be fed. Something our doggie friends always want us to know. “I am hungry.”

“Feed Me” is my MAGIC DOG. Full of love and full of mischief. He/she is wearing a modified Hounds Tooth jacket and smiling ear to ear. The eyes glitter with surprise and the nose is bursting with curiosity. The sky is filled with energy. The flowers, warmed by the sun, complement the flower in the lapel of the jacket. You can just feel his/her thoughts bursting forth.

I AM SOME DOG.

ENJOY!
